Poreč Mayor Loris Peršurić welcomed the organizers of the World Wrestling Festival, a new multi-sport event that will take place in Poreč from May 24 to June 7, 2023. In attendance were Croatian Wrestling Federation Secretary-General Tin Bregović, United World Wrestling (UWW) Development Director Deqa Niamkey, and Poreč Wrestling Club President Darko Kadum. Bregović highlighted that this event, which will bring together all forms of wrestling, is the first of its kind in the sport’s history.

Participants from about thirty countries will spend more than two weeks training and competing in Poreč. Niamkey stated that UWW aims to promote wrestling and attract a wider audience by organizing such events in tourist destinations. The presence of renowned mentors and trainers from Japanese universities was also emphasized as contributing to the promotion of the event.

The World Wrestling Festival is a multi-sport event consisting of several main activities: international camps, tournaments, Trofej Jadrana competitions, seminars for coaches, referees, and female members of the UWW, Erasmus+ Wrestling Academy, and an international camp in Greco-Roman style (U15, U17, U20).

Mayor Peršurić emphasized that Poreč is already recognized as a high-quality sports destination that has demonstrated a high level of organization and readiness in hosting major sports events.

Additionally, Poreč will host the World Veterans Wrestling Championship in the fall of 2024.
