Poreč Marina Transformation: New Seafront Promenade Coming This Spring

Poreč is set to welcome a new chapter in its marina’s development as the city kicks off the long-awaited transformation of this vital public space. Following successful phases of the city harbor’s renovation, the focus now shifts to the marina, an area that has long needed modernization. Construction work began this week under the management of the municipal company Usluga Poreč, with completion scheduled for April.
Marina Upgrade to Enhance Functionality and Appeal
The ongoing renovation project aims to improve the functionality and aesthetics of the marina, transforming it into a more attractive space for both locals and visitors. The marina’s coastline, which has remained in a deteriorated state since its construction in the 1970s, is set for a significant upgrade. The coastal pavilion and docks, built in the 1980s, have also seen little to no major renovations since their inception.
As part of the project, the marina will be paved with natural stone and some areas will feature weather-resistant WPC decking to ensure both durability and visual appeal. Additionally, the work includes the installation of energy-efficient lighting, new waste bins, benches, and bicycle parking facilities. A historic anchor, once used for mooring floating buoys for transport ships, will also be restored and showcased, further adding to the marina’s charm.
City Officials Highlight the Importance of Marina’s Revitalization
Poreč’s mayor, Loris Peršurić, emphasized the significance of the marina’s role as not just a nautical tourism hub, but also as an essential public space for the community. “The marina holds great importance for Poreč—not only for nautical tourism but also as a public area used by many citizens and visitors. With this renovation, we aim to create a space that is modern, safe, and enjoyable for both sailors and residents alike,” he said.
The city aims to improve quality standards and strengthen the marina’s competitiveness on both the national and international levels. The new design is expected to provide better conditions for sailors, an upgraded ambiance, and an overall higher service standard, enhancing customer satisfaction and attracting new visitors. The renovation will also make the marina’s public areas more functional and appealing for Poreč’s residents.
A Collaborative Effort for Sustainable Growth
According to Luka Maleš, the director of Usluga Poreč, this project is the result of responsible planning and collaborative efforts with local private companies owning properties within the marina. “Thanks to open communication and strong partnerships, we’ve secured the support of private stakeholders who understand the significance of this investment. We are confident this transformation will elevate the entire marina area, providing a better experience for both residents and visitors.”
The project is on track for completion by April 2025, and once finished, it promises to significantly boost the marina’s aesthetic appeal and functionality, further cementing Poreč’s status as a premium tourist destination.
