Porečki Delfin (Poreč Dolphin), the annual swimming event, is transforming into a full-fledged water sports festival for its 2024 edition. The organizers announced this exciting change at a press conference held at La Piazza, a newly opened venue in Poreč. The revamped event promises to offer a broader range of activities designed to thrill water sports enthusiasts of all ages.

Scheduled for August 30-31 at Valamar Parentino Beach, Porečki Delfin 2024 will be organized by the Sports Community of the City of Poreč. This year’s event marks a significant expansion from its traditional format, transitioning from a swimming marathon into a multi-disciplinary festival.

“We are excited to present this year’s edition of our favorite summer sports event with an expanded program. After years of success as a unique swimming event, we have decided to broaden our scope. For the first time, we are transforming the swimming marathon into a one-of-a-kind water sports festival,” said Zoran Jendrašić, Secretary of the Sports Community of the City of Poreč.

Expanded Program and New Competitions

The 2024 edition of Porečki Delfin will be the most diverse yet. The official opening takes place on Friday at noon, where participants can register for various disciplines across both days. This year, the organizers have introduced new sports to enhance the event’s appeal and attract a wider audience.

Mayor Peršurić highlighted the city’s policy of integrating sports with tourism. The aim is to extend the tourist season to 11 months, with sports playing a crucial role. He emphasized that “Porečki Delfin” is a key event contributing to this goal by promoting sports, healthy living, and the natural beauty of Istria. To encourage greater participation, the city will cover registration fees for all local clubs.

The recreational swimming marathon offers different distances, including 1,500, 3,000, and 5,000 meters. This year, a new 500-meter course has been added for those who want to participate but may not be seasoned swimmers. Participants are welcome to swim in any style and use any swimming aids. The registration fee for the marathon is €25, with online registration open until August 25 or on the day of the marathon, Saturday, August 31.

Exciting New Activities

In addition to swimming events, the festival will feature new competitions and activities. The expanded program includes a water polo tournament, aquathlon competition, SUP regatta, Cro Cup long-distance swimming competition, children’s water polo tournament, and demonstrations of sailing, SUP, and cornhole. A free water park will also be available on Parentino Beach, ensuring fun for all ages.

Nenad Velenik, Director of the Poreč Tourist Board, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event. He stated, “We eagerly look forward to this edition and are excited to support an event that plays a key role in enhancing the city’s tourist appeal and promoting Poreč.”

The organizers are committed to expanding the event with new sports activities while keeping the swimming marathon as the festival’s foundation. Their goal is to inspire people of all ages to participate, enjoy the sports, socialize, and soak in the summer spirit.

“We want our festival to be a gathering place filled with sports spirit and fun, where everyone can find something for themselves. Bring your family and friends, enjoy the sports competitions, try something new, and become part of the new Porečki Delfin story,” the Sports Community of the City of Poreč encouraged.
