Poreč as a Wrestling Hub

According to Tin Bregović, Secretary General of the Croatian Wrestling Federation, Poreč has become a central hub for wrestling, hosting numerous events like the Wrestling Festival and the Adriatic Trophy. In 2024 alone, the city recorded over 17,000 overnight stays from wrestlers, proving its attractiveness as a top sports destination.

“When wrestlers think of Croatia, Poreč is their first association due to the excellent conditions here,” Bregović said. He also highlighted that after the championship, Poreč will host the Beach Wrestling World Series Final, further solidifying its status as a wrestling capital.

Prominent Wrestlers to Compete

Some notable participants include legendary Egyptian wrestler Ebrahim Karam Mohamed Gaber, a multi-time Olympic medalist, and Bulgarian freestyle champion Aleksandar Haralanov Yordanov. Their presence promises a high level of competition, showcasing the best in veteran wrestling.

Community Impact and Tourism

Darko Kadum, Executive Board Member of the Croatian Wrestling Federation and President of the Poreč Wrestling Club, expressed pride in bringing such a significant event to the city.

“This is an excellent opportunity for children and young people to witness world-class wrestling,” Kadum said, noting that the event is a special highlight for the 60th anniversary of the Poreč Wrestling Club.

The matches will take place daily from 10:30 AM, with final rounds scheduled at 6 PM, offering exciting action for spectators.

Poreč Mayor Loris Peršurić emphasized the city’s dedication to sports: “We are proud to promote wrestling and host the best athletes.” Additionally, he announced that Poreč would host the Ironman event and the Handball World Championship early next year, further boosting its status as a sports tourism hotspot.
