Extended May Day Weekend: Something for Everyone in Poreč
The city of Poreč is gearing up for an extended weekend of celebrations for the Labor Day holiday. The festivities will kick off with a special session of the City Council on Friday, April 28th at noon, where the awards for outstanding citizens will be presented. This year’s recipient of the “30th of April” award will be Aldo Milotić, the former director of the Center for Vocational Education Poreč and the Institute for Agriculture and Tourism.
On Friday, April 28th at 5 pm, the city square will host a dance performance by the MOT08 dance association in honor of World Dance Day. On Saturday, April 29th at 10 am, the USB association will also perform. On both days, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and on Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm, there will be live music from local bands on the same square. The celebration of Croatia’s entry into the Schengen zone will take place at the Customs Wharf, where visitors can enjoy food, live music, and a DJ on Saturday and Sunday from 12 pm to 7 pm.
The traditional Labor Day celebration will take place on May 1st at the City Beach, starting with a game of briškula and trešeta in the morning, followed by music and songs by the Istrian Orchestra and Funbox band until the evening, with a rich selection of local food.
Tourism director Nenad Velenik announced that the first of May holiday will be a busy time for the town. They expect an average of 12,000 visitors per day, including many Italians, Slovenians, Germans, Austrians, and local tourists. All hotels, campsites, and apartment complexes will be open.
Denis Terlević from the Poreč Cycling Club also announced the traditional May Day Parenzana recreational bike ride, which will take place on Saturday, April 29th, and encouraged everyone to join in on the fun.
City spokesperson Ajna Temimović expressed gratitude to all the institutions, associations, schools, and kindergartens that participate in the program of celebrating the liberation and City Day of Poreč each year, with various exhibitions, quizzes, and other events.
The extended Labor Day weekend is shaping up to be a fun and exciting time for everyone, with something for everyone to enjoy in Poreč.
