Traffic Roundabouts in Poreč Decorated
Horticultural landscaping and flower planting have commenced on roundabouts in the city and the new Poreč bypass through the Facinka business zone.
Following the completion of the second phase of the Poreč bypass, connecting the Poreč-Varvari road with Mate Vlašić Street, the beautification of the roundabouts is underway. Apart from improving traffic flow and enhancing safety for all road users, these roundabouts contribute to an interesting and professionally appreciated cityscape with their horticultural design. The horticulture department of Usluga Poreč, the local services company, takes care of the maintenance of these 33 roundabouts.
Each roundabout that has been already landscaped has its own unique story and reason behind its specific design. In our horticulture unit, we pay attention not only to the types of plants to be planted in each location but also to the color schemes that will adorn each roundabout.
For example, at the roundabout near our city market, we have planted culinary herbs such as sage, which is commonly used in our region, along with gaillardia, which gives the roundabout a rustic appearance. At the distinctive “pink building” of Poreč, the roundabout is adorned with flower seedlings predominantly in shades of pink to aesthetically blend with the surroundings. Additionally, the flower beds in front of the city administration building are embellished with a combination of red and white flowers, representing the colors of our city.
All roundabouts with green areas or flower beds have irrigation systems in place. The roundabouts at the city center undergo seasonal changes, with different flowers being planted accordingly. During winter, you will find pansies, forget-me-nots, and violas adorning the roundabouts, while tulips bloom in spring. Summer is reserved for impatiens, begonias, petunias, ageratum, marigolds, and other summer flowers. Our dedicated staff manually plant each seedling and flower, not only on the roundabouts but also on other green areas that they meticulously maintain. Every year, they plant over 30,000 seedlings, with approximately half of them being planted on the roundabouts. The preparation and care for the green areas in the city require great dedication from our gardeners and lawnmowers, who annually weed more than 41,000 square meters and mow over 7,400,000 square meters of green spaces.
The most recently landscaped roundabout on the newly opened bypass is adorned with Mediterranean plants to provide a suitable Mediterranean ambiance and a warm welcome to residents and visitors at the city entrance. A total of 220 oleander and pittosporum seedlings were planted on a surface area of 415 square meters. Prior to planting, the area was seeded with grass, and an irrigation system was installed to ensure proper care for the plants and lawn. The remaining two new roundabouts will be landscaped in the same manner next week.
All these activities contribute to a more beautiful and well-maintained city, making the stay during the upcoming summer months more pleasant and enjoyable for the many tourists visiting our city, as well as for all our citizens.
