On the first Saturday of September, the town of Poreč hosts the largest and most enjoyable recreational swimming marathon on the Adriatic coast – the “Poreč Dolphin” (Porečki delfin). This event seamlessly combines sports with a positive atmosphere, offering a plethora of activities for the whole family. It gathers swimmers and sea enthusiasts of all ages.

Scheduled for Saturday, September 2nd, at Pical Beach, this unique sporting event welcomes everyone to participate. Participants can choose to swim the marathon using any style they prefer, and the use of swimming aids like fins, masks, and even inflatable mattresses is allowed.

The course follows a path with a view of Poreč’s old town, and swimmers can opt for the shortest route of 1,500 meters, the more challenging 3,000-meter option, or the 5,000-meter route. Speed is not the essence; the focus is on participation, having fun, and spending a delightful day by and in the sea.

The relaxed and pleasant atmosphere of the Poreč Dolphin has already attracted thousands of visitors from around twenty countries. In addition to local swimmers, thanks to Poreč’s friendship with the Somogy county in Hungary and the town of Siófok on Lake Balaton, Hungarians are consistently among the most numerous participants each year.

Due to its popularity and high attendance, organizers pay special attention to safety measures, ensuring that swimmers can enjoy both the sea and the land worry-free. The 5,000-meter route is clearly marked, with small boats stationed every 250 meters for rest. The 1,500 and 3,000-meter milestones are marked, featuring larger boats with towels and refreshments. Lifeguard teams are present on land and sea, actively patrolling the route to offer assistance if needed.

Registrations for this year’s edition are already open at poreckidelfin.com, where registrations can be purchased online for 20 euros. On-site registration will also be available on the day of the event. However, organizers encourage all interested parties to register online as soon as possible to secure sufficient materials.

The registration fee includes swimming the designated route, transportation by motorboat from the finish line to the shore, wristbands and timing chips, a warm meal, water, fruit, isotonic drinks, blood pressure checks, medical assistance, a finisher’s t-shirt, and a medal for each completed distance.

Apart from swimming, the Poreč Dolphin event offers an array of additional activities. Alongside music and catering services, Pical Beach visitors can enjoy jet ski acrobatics, a water polo tournament, and demonstrations of skills on SUP boards. Additionally, they can freely access the water park and have fun on its sea attractions.

The Poreč Dolphin event is organized by the Sports Community of Poreč, and its enduring quality owes much to the support of Dolphin’s partners and sponsors: Valamar Riviera, the Poreč Tourist Board, and the City of Poreč.
