Poreč Achieves Two Million Overnight Stays
In the period from January 1st to August 3rd, 2023, the Poreč Tourist Board celebrated a remarkable milestone – a total of 2,009,076 nights stayed, marking a noteworthy 1% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, the number of arrivals grew by 3%, reaching an impressive 386,225, as reported by the City’s Tourism Board.
Key Highlights
- Strong International Presence: Traditionally, Germany led the way with the highest number of nights stayed, accounting for 27% of the total nights. Austria followed closely with a 20% share, while Slovenian guests claimed the third position with a 10% contribution. Notably, domestic visitors and Italians secured a solid fourth place with 6% each.
- Peak Months and Rising Trends: June and July stood out as the months with the highest number of nights stayed, and the momentum continued with increases recorded in January, February, and May compared to the previous year.
- Changing Visitor Habits: Over recent years, a significant shift has been observed in tourist behavior. Longer stays of 10 to 14 days are gradually being replaced by shorter visits of 3 to 5 days. Travelers now prefer exploring multiple destinations in one go, contributing to a reduction in the average length of stay. Weekend getaways are also gaining popularity, shaping the evolving landscape of the tourism market.
- Diverse Accommodation Choices: From the beginning of the year until August 3rd, hotels experienced a remarkable 3% increase in nights stayed compared to 2022. Household accommodations, on the other hand, witnessed a slight dip of 3% from the previous year. Campgrounds noted a 4% decrease, while non-commercial lodgings such as vacation homes and apartments enjoyed a 10% surge in nights stayed.
- Travel Arrangements: Throughout the assessed period, 52% of visitors arrived via tourist agencies, while 48% explored the destination individually.
