This week marks the commencement of the restoration of Casa Romanica (Romanesque House, Romanička kuća), as reported by the city administration. The Mayor of Poreč, Loris Peršurić, and the director of the Poreč Heritage Museum, Elena Uljančić, accompanied by Lorella Limoncin Toth, the head of the Conservation Department in Pula, and representatives from the contractor Kapitel d.o.o and the supervisory team, inspected the site on this occasion.

The project, valued at €315,644, encompasses construction and artisanal work on the façades and interiors, rehabilitation of intermediate structures, static stabilization, restoration of stonework, as well as carpentry, electrical, and mechanical works. Conservation supervision will be conducted by employees of the Conservation Department in Pula.

– The Romanesque House is a symbol of our city. Preserving and restoring such monuments is not just our obligation but our duty. By safeguarding our heritage, we preserve the story of our city and pass it on to future generations, Mayor Peršurić remarked.

Director Uljančić mentioned that the completion of the works is anticipated by the end of March next year. Following this, the project will progress to the conceptual and executive design of a permanent exhibition. After the restoration, the Romanesque House will be transformed into a center interpreting the history of residential culture in Poreč, with a focus on the building itself.

Built in the 13th century, the Romanesque House is recognizable for its Romanesque elements and stone carvings. It underwent significant restoration during the Italian administration of the last century and survived bombing during World War II, despite being part of a row of houses. Today, it stands as one of the most iconic buildings in Poreč. The structural rehabilitation and the opening of the interpretation center will not only enhance Poreč’s tourist offerings but also improve the presentation of Poreč’s material and immaterial cultural heritage, according to a statement from the city administration.
