Poreč is set to host the 15th International Fishing Fair, known as “Crofish,” from November 24th to 26th. The event is organized by the Crafts Chamber of Istrian County.

Diverse Exhibitors

The fair, much more than a traditional expo, will feature over 80 exhibitors from Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, and Spain. These exhibitors will showcase a wide array of products, including fishing and aquaculture supplies, fishing equipment and tools, vessels, protective gear, professional and recreational fishing equipment, and water sports gear. Manufacturers of ropes, nets, fish processors, and other marine products will also be present, alongside innovations for cleaning water ecosystems.

Educational and Research Presence

This year, a record number of educational and research institutions will participate, including maritime fishing schools and faculties. Specialized vehicles for transportation, such as refrigerated trucks and boat engines, will also be showcased, providing visitors with insights into the latest technologies.

Expert Talks and Presentations

Various experts, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and scientific institutions, will discuss topics such as marine fishing, ecology, aquaculture developments, invasive species in the Adriatic Sea, and the use of support measures. Italian colleagues will share experiences regarding the economic use of the blue crab and the controlled utilization of bluefin tuna resources.

Culinary Delights

A daily cooking show program will allow visitors to sample both modern and traditional seafood dishes. Renowned chefs, including Marijo Čepek and Gianpaulo Sardot, will prepare delightful seafood creations for attendees.

A dedicated section will highlight freshwater specialties, bridging the green and blue aspects of Croatia. PP Orahovica will present dishes like fish stew and grilled carp, promoting the consumption of freshwater products.

Maritime Education and Career Opportunities

Several maritime educational institutions will be present to introduce career possibilities in maritime and fishing-related fields. Interested students can obtain information about educational opportunities, and the fair organizers have arranged transportation for students from the Istrian County.

Waterfront Activities

The picturesque Poreč waterfront, at the former Customs Pier area, will host a variety of vessels, including Coast Guard vessels, traditional sailing ships, and tourist boats. Free train rides will connect the Žatika hall and the waterfront from 10 am to 4 pm daily.

Family-Friendly Activities

For the youngest attendees, the fair offers a children’s corner with performances, educational workshops led by animators, and free trial dives in a heated pool, courtesy of the “Pogled u plavo” diving and educational project.

Water Sports and Fishing Competitions

As a significant part of Crofish, water sports and sports fishing will take center stage. Events include the Crofish Regatta for junior Optimist sailors, the Crofish Cup for boat fishing, and the Crofish Junior Cup for shore fishing. In Cerovlje, the Crofish Cup for live bait and lures in freshwater will also take place.

Closing Statements

Robert Momić, the fair director, emphasized Crofish as the only fishing-related expo in Croatia. He invited visitors to explore booths, engage with exhibitors and boat crews, witness competitions, and savor seafood specialties from top chefs. The event will take place in Poreč from November 24th to 26th, 2023, with gratitude extended to the Mayor of Poreč-Parenzo and all sponsors for their ongoing support.

All activities are free of charge, and the fair is open from 10 am to 7 pm for visitors, with vessels available for viewing from 10 am to 4 pm throughout the three-day event.
