Istarska Rivijera 2024: Sandro Kopp Winner of the Poreč Tennis Tournament

Sandro Kopp, the 23-year-old tennis sensation from Austria, emerged triumphant in the inaugural leg of the 52nd edition of the Istrian Riviera (Istarska Rivijera). The thrilling final, held at the “Pical” Tennis Center in Poreč, saw Kopp swiftly defeat his counterpart, Frenchman Luka Pavlović, with a commanding score of 6-3, 6-2 in just 67 minutes. This victory marked Kopp’s fourth title on the ITF World Tour in singles competition, showcasing his prowess in his eighth final at this level of competition.

Seizing the momentum, the third seed Kopp secured a crucial break in the sixth game of the first set, paving the way for his dominance. In the second set, Kopp continued his relentless performance by claiming the first four games, effortlessly converting the gained advantage into a convincing victory. Kopp capitalized on three out of four break point opportunities, while Pavlović struggled to threaten his opponent’s serve, managing to secure only seven return points throughout the match.

Kopp’s path to the title saw him drop just one set, in the opening round against Italian Daniel Bagnolini, after which he went on to win the next ten sets consecutively. This remarkable achievement earned him 15 ATP points along with a prize purse of $2,160. On the other hand, Pavlović’s journey to his fifth ITF World Tour final earned him eight ranking points and a monetary reward of $1,272.

The Istarska Rivijera continues with the tournament in Rovinj, with the main draw matches scheduled to commence on Tuesday, March 12th. Both finalists from Poreč, Kopp and Pavlović, are registered to compete in Rovinj as well.

Anticipation builds for the Rovinj tournament, with Croatian tennis hopefuls including Matej Dodig from Osijek and Luka Mikrut from Split. Mikrut, who successfully defended his doubles title in Poreč alongside local representative Alen Bill, clinched the trophy by defeating the Croatian duo of Nikola Bašić from Samobor and Mili Poljičak from Split in the final with a scoreline of 6-1, 7-5.
